Personal Trainers Are Dangerous And Cannot Be Trusted

Quite a poignant statement, especially coming from a Personal Trainer. However, I am not all surprised to know that Personal Trainers don’t rate much better than used car salesmen in the eyes of the consumer.

In all my years as a Fitness Professional I honestly can’t say I’ve known very many other Personal Trainers whom I would wholeheartedly trust. I find this very unfortunate as I feel like I’m coming up to bat with two strikes already against me, when conversing with potential customers. Yes, it is true that there have been many of “Trainers” who disgrace my profession by offering poor instruction, high-pressure selling, collecting payments for large packages then skipping town, not to mention the other heinous crimes that have landed some in penitentiary. Well, I can say that I know how a lawyer feels! But as in the fitness profession, I can say that I know lawyers that I’ve come to know, like and trust. So, like those good lawyers, there are good Personal Trainers out there.

Perhaps some of you may have had an unpleasant experience with a Trainer and swore never to work with one again. I can’t say I blame you. But at Optimum Fitness Systems I will always say, “Let me first prove to you that I can help you, OR YOU DON’T PAY ME!”  That’s it!

If you happen to be in the market for a Personal Trainer, I network with other Trainers both locally and nationally. So for those of you here in the Springs, I will gladly refer other Trainers to you throughout the city if I’m unable to work with you myself. Otherwise, I’d like to pass along some helpful guidelines in helping you to hire a good Personal Trainer:

  • Years of experience
  • Education: Nationally recognized certification and/or degree
  • Areas of specialty (e.g. fat loss, athletics, rehabilitation, etc.)
  • Good understanding of various exercise methods and techniques
  • Business license with the city
  • Fully insured
  • Personality that works well with yours
  • No contract required
  • Fees

Without going too in depth into any of these items (perhaps in future blogs), I simply wanted to outline what I would consider the essential points for what qualities you should look for in hiring a Personal Trainer. If you’re still clueless and want to know more, feel free to contact me and I’ll be glad to answer any of your questions and perhaps refer a trusted Personal Trainer your way. And with that, be sure to make the new year the year that you will be your best!
